Sarah
Elizabeth
Sarah was the eldest child of Henry Steele and Emily Cameron
She married George Cox. They had one daughter Dorscie
who married David Patterson. Dorscie and David's two
children were Delanie and David Jr.
Sarah and her husband George played a leading role in the marriage of her sister Cassie to Davey Clutchey. Much to the displeasure of Henry, Cassies's father Sarah allowed her sister and Davey to do their courting at her home. Later it was she and George who announced the wedding of Cassie and Davey and sent out the invitations. Henry was upset with the fact that Davey was catholic, and he was also 12 years older than Cassie. |
The Pattersons lived in Vancouver BC. where Dorscie taught. High School. Both she and her husband were avid fishermen. Being the only descendants of Henry Steele who moved to Western Canada, the Pattersons always had a warm welcome for those of their cousins who visited them.
Euphemia
( Stella 1886-1965 )
Stella was the second child and second daughter of Henry Steele
and Emily Cameron. She married Hib Armstrong.
Hib and Stella Armstrong
Stella was born Oct 8th in Powassan. She married Hibbert Armstrong (1886-1961) also of Powassan. They lived all of their lives in Swastika and Kirkland Lake, while bringing up a family of seven children. The first three were girls and the latter four, boys. |

Gail graduated in Electronic Engineering from the University of Toronto,

and Kim (b. 1990)
Cheryl married Guy Lauzon and their children are Carrie (b.1975), Mark,
(b.1977) and Amber
Robert, married Judy Doonan and they have two children, Tara (b. 1984 and
Patricia (b.1990)
Barbara is a social worker. She married Blaine Campbell and they had three
children, April, Jessey (b.1955), Brandon (1987) Barbara later divorced
Blaine and married Guy Nielen. The couple live in Nipissing and Barb
drives

She
married Todd Margum and they have one child Alexa Magret (b. 1997)
Dale Jr. (b. 1967. He married Cherry Hubert.. Their daughter Eve was born

Unita was born in Swastika and in 1937 at the age of 26 she married
Johnny
Lavoie who was born in Quebec.. Their two children were Gary (b.
1940) and Gerald (b.1945)
Gary Lavoie married Margaret
Allen and their two children are Beverley and Debra
3. INEZ (b. 1913)
Inez married Charlie McCaffery. They had one son Chris. (b. 1936)
Chris married Joanne ( last
name ? ) They had two children, Stccey and
Christopher. Both children were born deaf. Chris' second marriage to
Gloria (last name ?) produced a son David
4. CECIL (b. 1916
-1977)
Cecil married Ann McFarlane. Cecil was tragically killed
in a trucking
accident.. their two children are Kenneth (b. 1945) and Carole (b.
1947)
Kenneth Cecil and Ann's son was a Captain
and jet fighter pilot in the Royal
Canadian Air Force and presently is a helicopter pilot fighting forest
fires in
Victoria BC. He has written a number of books on flying and has been a
flying instructior.
He was honoured by receiving the Governor General's Award for his
work on fighting forest fires from helicopters.
His books and training on this subject have taken him from Canada
to the United Statres and Europe and are the guidelines to present
forrest fire fighting.
Carole married Mike McNaughton
5. WESLEY (B. 1918-D.1977)
Wesley did not marry.
He was killed in an industrial accident in Kirkland Lake.
6. THERAN GEORGE
EDWARD (b. 1920 )
Theran's first marriage was to Ruth Durham who died in 1974. He then married
Ann Groshak. There were no children from either marriage. Theran and Ann
still live in Kirkland Lake..
7. DAVID (B. 1921
David's marriage to Gloria Haddow produced seven children.
Robert (b. 1954), Bruce (b.1956), Sandra, Patricia, Randy, Tommy and Laurie.
SUMMARY
Stella
Steele Armstrong and Hib Armstrong raised an extraordinary family.
Beginning with Hibbert himself, their contributions to Kirkland Lake's
history
is extraordinary. Hib brought the very first load of timber used in the
construction of homes into the community.
Their sons were extraordinary athletes excelling in softball and hockey-
Theran being one of the finest softball pitchers in the North and David
an
outstanding hockey goaltender.
Two sons died while at work in the transportation industry
A grandson was a captain in the Air Force flying jets.
Mary
Eva
Mary Eva was the third child of Henry
and Emily.
Little is known about Eva. She was married to, and divorced from,
a (?) Woodward of the Woodward family.from Detroit
There is no record of any children
Her second marriage was to George Alton.
She worked as a travelling sales demonstrator for Clark's Food
her area being mostly inNorthern Ontario. She lived at least
part
of the time in Timmins.
Art James, son of Georgina, and nephew of Eva, describes Eva
as being ' a very beautiful woman'. Art further tells how Eva
took his
his mother ( Georgina ) to Toronto to live with Eva after their
mother Emily (Cameron) Steele was killed in the Haileybury fire
that destroyed their home.
It is thought she died of complications of diabetes, an affliction
somewhat prevalent in the Steele family. A search by the writer in
the Timmins cemetery records in August 2000, showed no
indication of her burial in that location.
Cassie
Cassie ws the fourth child and fourth daughter of Henry Steele and
Emily Cameron

Bill
Steele
William Steele was the fifth child and only son of Henry
Steele and Emily Cameron
Bill was probably born in Nippissing, although we have no records of his birth and death dates. He was married to Martha (last name unknown) and after their divorce, he lived with a lady known as 'Goldie'. Bill worked all his life in the mining industry in Kirkland Lake. He did serve in World War I as a sniper, but did not ever talk about his experiences in battle. He was a dapper man about town as the photo at right shows. | ![]() |

TRESSA
Tressa was the fifth daughter of Henry Steele and Emily Cameron
At the moment very little is known of Tressa . She married
and had children.
It is thought some of her family live in the New Liskeard Ontario district.
Georgina
(b. 1906)
Georgina was the youngest child of Henry Steele and
Emily Cameron.
When Georgina's mother Emily Cameron Steele, died in the Haileybury
fire that claimed the family home, Georgina was brought to Toronto to live
her sister Eva. She ws 12 years old at the time.
Georgina met and married Cyril James. They lived all of their lives
in
Toronto where Cyril worked in the dairy products industry. for the
Silverwoods company. They had a loving marriage for 53 years.
Georgina and Cyril are well remembered for their joviality and
gracious hospitality to all of their relatives who visited them
in Toronto.
Arthur (b. 1928)
Georgina and Syril James had had one son Arthur (b.1928).
Arthur's first marriage to June Goodmund ended in divorce but not
a son Stephen was born.
After the divorce Stephen remaining with his father.
Arthur remarried and presently lives in Fort Lauderdale.
with his wife, Mary (Stonehill). Two daughters, Elizabeth,
(Marcelline)
and Christine were the products of the second marriage.

Art worked for Bell Canada where he helped to bring theh first outside
union to that company. Later he transferred to Southern Bell in Florida.
Here too he has been active in Union work serving as a union
representative in bargaining contracts in Atlanta and Washington.
Having retired from the Bell, Art and Mary travel extensively in Canada
and the USA and spend much of their time in the in their summer home
near Bracebridge, Ontario.
The Children of Arthur James
Stephen
Stephen's first marriage was to Linda Magee. Before their divorce
had a daughter Jessica.
Stephen's second marriage to Oonagh, produced a daughter Eva.
Stephen and Oonagh live in Texas where Steve works in the grocery
business.
Elizabeth
Elizabeth, the first daughter of Art and Mary, married Myles Russel.
They live in West palm Beach Florida with their three children,
a son Mitchell and twin daughters, Madison and Meagan.
Christine
Christine lives in the Washington D.C. area, where she works
as a computer programmer. Her fiancee is Scot Kelb a
former Secret Service agent who has recently trasferred to the
State Department.
